Yesterday I was supposed to spend the day shooting my December shots at Nisqually… but instead, I spent the day in the rain, downtown:

Maybe I’ll get in a whole lot of trouble for taking and posting these photos. Then again, maybe in view of the fact that user driven social content websites are the hottest buzz tool available (see: any article on myspace in the last two years), perhaps the occurrences of amateur shots of upcoming films on flickr are a good thing for those films:

In fact, if it weren’t for the comments on Bob’s photos of the Vancouver filming like this one, I would have gone on expecting that it was a cheezy love story set against a major event in my (and my city’s) past and merely hoping that a post-Oscar Charlize Theron would have the sense to not sign on to a sucky script. (I have a healthy amount of faith in Andre3000’s artistic integrity, too.)
But those notes led me to this description on IMDB:
(synopsis written by Stuart Townsend, who IS as hot in person and who I want to have some faith in.)
"Based on one of the most incendiary political uprisings in a generation, Battle in Seattle takes an in depth and personal look at the five days that rocked the world in 1999 as tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in protest of The World Trade Organization. What started out as a peaceful and successful protest intended to stop the WTO talks quickly escalated into a full-fledged riot and eventual State of Emergency that squared peaceful and unarmed protesters off with the Seattle Police Department and National Guard. A "ticking time bomb" political action-drama in the vein of "Crash" and "The Constant Gardener", Battle in Seattle intertwines points of view of all facets of this infamous event. Our lead characters are protestors, pedestrians, politicos, police, delegates and doctors. No perspective is left untold in this cross section and dissection of the films story lines of those who intentionally or accidentally find themselves on the streets of Seattle those fateful last days of the Millennium. Enlisting the expertise Britain’s critically acclaimed Director of Photography, Barry Ackroyd (United 93), writer/director Stuart Townsend will combine dramatic theatrical performances with actual footage from the Seattle riots to bring these contrasting points of view to the screen. Battle in Seattle is a film destined to excite, engage and enrage audiences everywhere."
Which makes me want to see the film.

Hopefully you will, too.
…and hopefully there’ll still be some shots of me, waving an orange flag and soaked by the rain, remembering, conflicted.
